William C. Gibson 88, of Clark St., Westbrook, passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014 at Springbrook Rehab & Nursing Home. He was born in Newton, MA the son of Paul M. and Mildred B. Gibson.. He graduated from Windham High in 1947. Bill went into the Merchant Marines for one year and traveled through the Panama Canal. He then joined the Army in 1950 as an Army Medic with the 24th Division during the Korean Conflict. In 1952 he joined the Air Force and was stationed at Otis Air Force Base., where he met his wife of 59 years. They traveled and raised their family during those years. After retiring from the Air Force in 1972 as a Master Sargent they settled in the Portland area. He was known for being stoic, a mentor, and teacher to all his family. Bill loved to tinker with is vintage cars. He was predeceased by his wife Sarah (Lynn) Gibson and a sister Betty A. Beem. He is survived by his children, Paul M. Gibson and spouse Lorraine of Gorham, Lynne A Henderson and spouse Joe of Standish, Bonnie S Pearlman and spouse Aaron of Great Mills, Maryland, and Lisa M Mynahan and spouse Gary of Cumberland Center. 8 Grandchildren, and 10 Great Granchildren. A visitation period will be held from 5:00 to 5:30 PM followed by a service at 5:30 at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St. Westbrook. Interment will be at a later date.
