William (Bill) H. Calvert, III passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at home in Steep Falls, Maine on the morning of August 4th, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a retired Air Force 1st Sergeant Master Sergeant who served bravely as a B-52 tail-gunner during Vietnam. After retiring from the Air Force after over 20 years, he was a supervisor for H.P. Hood, a driver for Concord Trailways, and as a beloved bus driver for MSAD 6. He was a Lieutenant on the Standish Fire Department and an EMT for Standish Rescue. He loved to fish, play Texas Hold'em, and telling jokes and stories with family and friends. Over many years playing and enjoying scratch tickets he earned the well-deserved nickname "Scratch-Ticket Bill." His other nicknames were Sweet William, Snidely Whiplash, and our favorite of all, Dad. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Marie I. Calvert of Steep Falls, four children and their spouses, Richard and Michele Calvert of South Carolina, Dr. Philip and Kristen Calvert of Arizona, Michelle and Scott Arsenault of Steep Falls, and Nicholas and Ashley Calvert of Steep Falls, as well as 16 grandchildren: Cheyenne and husband Sean, Richard Cody, Sheridan, Laramie, Kaycee, Hannah, and Jackson; Nathaniel, Benjamin, Rebekah Praise, and Abigail; Michael and wife Amelia, Shane, and Megan; and Blake and Tucker, as well as siblings, Patricia Calvert, Mary and Lou Ayotte, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Donald B. Wildes, David Kearns, Bill and Linda Ward, Bud and Yevette Ward, Dorothy and Paul Moody, Wayne Ward, Charlie Ward, and Peter and Melissa Ward. He is predeceased by his parents, William H., Jr. and Kathryn M. (Burke) Calvert, sisters Barbara Wildes, Theresa and Robert Durst, and Elizabeth Kearns, brother-in-law, Robert G. Wildes and a nephew, Robert Durst, Jr. A celebration honoring his life and legacy will be held at the home of Paul and Dorothy Moody in Steep Falls at 2 p.m. on Sunday the 9th of August.
