Obituary

Wesley Merton McLellan of Windham, Maine (April 10, 1930-July 26, 2016) passed away Tuesday at 7:00pm at the Casco Inn in Casco Maine after 86 years of a beautiful, rich family life. Born in East Windham Maine on April 10, 1930, he was the eldest son of Horace and Thelma McLellan. He graduated from Windham High School June 11, 1948 and played basketball for the Windham Riots 1949 to 1950 where he earned the name: "Bigfoot". Wesley was known for his work ethic and had various occupations including farmer, lumberjack, construction worker, and mill worker at S.D. Warren (11/1/52 to 7/1/89) until his retirement. He was also a Scout Master for Troop 51 in North Windham from 1970 to 1973. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed deer, moose, and bird hunting, fishing, ice fishing and camping. He was well known for his outstanding musicianship as a plectrum banjo player for old minstrel shows and family gatherings playing such favorites as Mr. Sandman, Bill Bailey, Down by the Old Mill Stream, Shanty Town, and many more. He loved spending precious moments with family at his camp in Solon Maine on Ironbound Pond, which was lovingly dubbed camp "Tapanukeg." Though the strings of his banjo and his chainsaw's drone deep in the Maine woods may become silent; if you listen carefully, you may still hear Wes and Loretta dancing to the strains of the Tennessee waltz… Wes was predeceased by his loving wife, Loretta/Janine (Sis) McLellan; his grandson, Justin Lake McLellan; his brother-in-law, David Rhodes; his brother-in-law, Dominick Oddi; his sister Grace Merry; his father Horace McLellan; his mother, Thelma McLellan; and his youngest sister, Marion.
