Obituary

Warren Paul Swetz, 79, of Windham, Maine, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024. Warren was born October 25, 1944 in Yonkers, NY to the late Michael and Johanna (Krylowski) Swetz. He played golf through high school and upon high school graduation, traveled to Monmouth College where he continued to play on the college team. The next chapter of his life brought him to Kent State University where he graduated with a Masters in Public Administration. During his time at Kent, he also met his future wife, Suzanne Koons, with whom he would share 53 years of marriage before her passing in 2023. After their marriage, Warren and Suzy vacationed in Maine where they fell in love with the state and made it their home. They built a house in Windham where they raised their only child, a daughter, Katy. Maine holds many special memories for the family including summer camping over the Fourth at Acadia National Park, picnicking at and walking the beaches of Reid State Park, and swimming and skiing throughout Sebago Lake State Park. After retiring from a position at the state of Maine, Warren focused on keeping busy with hobbies. A hunter and fisherman during his earlier years in Maine, Warren transitioned to range shooting. He was a member of the Falmouth Rod and Gun Club and was proud to be a Range Safety Officer. He loved photography and was selected for an exhibition at the local library. Warren discovered the open country of northern Maine while snowmobiling, frequently staying at cabins in Jackman. And after too many years without a club in hand, he rekindled his love of golf by joining the Point Sebago Country Club. He was an active member in the Sharks league and was excited to share his accomplishments with his family, even if it was just a $36 win. He will be missed by many whose paths he crossed while doing the activities he loved so much. Warren is survived by his daughter, Katharine and her husband Raymond of Stafford Springs, CT. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Johanna, his brother, Howard, and his wife, Suzanne. The family is forever grateful to the staff at Ledgewood Nursing Home for their care and support during Warren's last stage of life. Services have not yet been scheduled. Donations in Warren's honor may be made to Harvest Hills Animal Shelter of Fryeburg from where he adopted his beloved Maine Coon, Juliet.
