Obituary

Scarborough – Virginia Eileen Simpson, 102, died on July 8, 2016, in Scarborough. She was born in Greenwood City, on May 30, 1914, the daughter of the late Frank and Elvira (Cole) Maxfield. As a teenager, Ginny moved to Falmouth where she met Harold Simpson. The two married in 1930, raised two children together, and were married for over 68 years, when Harold passed away in 1988. In 1945, the couple purchased Burnell's Tavern on Rte. One, in Scarborough and remodeled it into both an apartment for their family to live in, but also as their original take out hamburger/hot dog stand. There, the family worked together selling the hamburger made famous by Harold's father years ago at Simpson's Grove on Rt. 100 in Falmouth. Simpson's Famous Hamburg's with fried onions, in Scarborough, was operated by Ginny and Harold for over 25 years before selling and retiring in the mid-seventies. Together they would winter in Florida, but spend their summers at their camp at Twichell Pond, in Greenwood; which was Ginny's favorite place to be. She was a proud mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother, who took pride in her family, and enjoyed following the activities and accomplishments of all of her grandchildren. Ginny was also given the honor of receiving the Boston Post Cane in 2015, which is bestowed upon the oldest living resident in Scarborough. Ginny is survived by her children, Larry Simpson and wife June, of Gorham, and Nancy Pearson and husband James, of Scarborough; five grandchildren, Mary Pearson and her significant other, Tamara Murray, of Scarborough, Robert Pearson and wife Shannon, of Scarborough, Deborah Ann Loveitt and husband Peter, of Gorham, Susan E. Fournier of Midland, TX, and Michael H. Simpson of Limington; nine great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. Burial will be private at the Blanchard Cemetery.
