Gorham, ME - Van E. Carll, 87 of Gorham passed away Wednesday March 20, 2024 at Springbrook Center with his family by his side. He was born July 7, 1936 in Westbrook the son of Clarence Edward and Lillian R. (Richardson) Carll, graduated from Gorham High School and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Van is remembered as a loving husband of 60 years to his wife Carol (Harmon) Carll of Gorham; father to his children daughter Heather Carll of Portland and his son Edward Christopher Carll (predeceased) of Ohio; grandfather to two grandchildren Jennifer Newell of Ohio and Shawn Carll of Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Sarah Andrews, Eleanor McAdams and niece Jane Beaver. Van grew up with a love of the water. He spent countless hours at Sebego lake enjoying his family's camp. He could often be found boating or water skiing. Van met his wife doing another favorite activity of roller skating at Elm Street Roller Rink. This would be a tradition he and his wife would share every weekend with their children in Westbrook. They also enjoyed horseback riding together. Airplanes and trains were often under construction in the kitchen and weekends were spent flying his model planes in any open field that could be found. Van was known for his love of operating heavy equipment which he spent several decades doing for R.J. Grondin & Sons. He retired in 2010 and spent his time with his rescued cockatiels, taking family trips up North and spending time working on the home he built in 1965 for his family. A time of visitation will be Friday March 29, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. at Dolby, Blais & Segee Funeral Home, 76 State St., Gorham.
