Titus H. Wheatley, 83, of Portland, passed away on August 18, 2022. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on October 19, 1938 to parents Howard and Mable (Walker) Wheatley. Titus grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from Manheim Township High School in Lancaster. After graduating he got an Associate's Degree in Industrial Management Technologies at Central Carolina Tech. Institute in Sanford, NC. Titus was in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1968 , transferred to Army at Fort Bragg, North Carolina served in South Korea with the "Mule Skinners" Convoy Unit and finished his 20 years of service with the 133rd Engineering Unit in the Army National Guard where he trained young soldiers on the 50 caliber tactical machine gun. Titus worked in South Carolina for Sun Spec Company, in Sanford N.C. where he rose to vice president of the company. After moving back to Maine he worked at Maine Medical Center starting at parking attendant, then security guard and finishing his career as building engineer for all buildings in the area. He was in charge of everything from toaster's to elevator's. Titus was a hard working humble man who never had an enemy. He was kind to everyone he met and would be their friend for life. He would send and receive tons of Christmas cards some from people he had only met once. His life was not an easy one but his family, faith, and love of Country, guided his life through good times and bad never complaining. He enjoyed hiking and kayaking and was an avid cyclist. He traveled extensively in Europe, the Caribbean, the American Southwest and Hawaii. He spent many hours exploring the ponds and lakes of Western Maine in his kayak. He leaves behind his longtime partner and friend Sarah Mattar of Scarborough, his three sons; Tom, William, and James, and daughter Anne. He is predeceased by his son, Daniel whom he loved very much. His Grandsons, James Jr, Tyler, and Gema Ray, Great Grandchildren, Levi and Macy. He will be missed dearly by everyone he's ever met, and hopefully we can share the same kindness in life he has taught us. Farwell Titus…to the last man. Titus will be buried on Monday, August 29th at 12PM at Black Point Cemetery in Scarborough. o come.
