Scarborough, ME - Thomas (Tom) Curtis, 79, went to meet his savior, Jesus Christ on August 9, 2026, ending his recent, arduous journey with dementia. He was born the second of three children in Portland, ME on April 11, 1947, to Jane (Christiansen) Curtis and Burton Clyde Curtis. Tom moved with his family to North Haven CT at the age of 7 but his heart always was in Maine. He served in the US Navy on a reserve ship stationed in South Portland, ME.

He married the love of his life, Eileen Savenelli in April 1967 and started his first career as an electrician in New Haven, CT. In 1969 Tom, Eileen and their newborn son, Jason moved to Yarmouth, ME where Tom continued his electrical career.

In 1985, he began his second career as a contract salesman for Central Petroleum Company. He covered several counties in Maine and one in New Hampshire, making good friends with his customers in the construction and farming industries. The countless conversations he had on the tailgate of a truck, the steps of a piece of equipment, in a maintenance garage or at farmer’s kitchen table made it obvious he was more interested in them and their lives than selling anything. Taking care of the people allowed the sale to take care of itself. People liked to do business with Tom because they could trust him and the products he provided. Tom retired in 2025, with 40 years of friendships to show for his efforts.

Over the years, he bought and sold a number of antique and almost antique tractors. His favorite was a 1947 Ford 9N which he called “Big 9” and added attachments in order to plow snow and mow grass. He also bought and restored a number of antique cars. Tom enjoyed making furniture as well, his favorite wood to work with being pine. His furniture included a shaker dining room table, a poker table, a grandfather clock and much more.

While living in Gorham, he and several of his friends got together after work in his garage for a beer or two, conversation, to confer on projects, complain about their “honey do” list and of course a few laughs! It became known as “The Garage Club”

He is survived by his wife Eileen, his sons Jason and wife Wendy, Mark and wife Becky, grandchildren Joe, Jacob, Casey, Thomas, Timmy and Tucker, his sister, JoAnn Pippin and husband, Ron and brother Martin and husband Bill.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Maine Veterans Home, Scarborough for their loving and kind attention over the last 2 years. They also thank the staff of the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough for making his short stay so peaceful. 

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, 4 - 6pm at Dolby, Blaise and Segee, 7 State St, Gorham, ME.
