Theresa I.
Chamard
Apr 1, 1933 — Oct 5, 2026
Westbrook, ME
Westbrook, ME - Theresa I. (Lewis) Chamard, of Westbrook, passed away on October 5, 2026, in her hometown of Westbrook, ME. She was born on April 1, 1933, in Westbrook, the last living child of the late Arthur P. & Edesse Clara (Thuotte) Lewis and remained deeply connected to the Westbrook community she loved throughout her life. She was the wife of the late Robert A. Chamard Sr., who passed away on October 10, 2017.
Theresa was devoted, loving, and full of life. She built a life centered on family, hard work, and caring for others, and she brought warmth and energy wherever she went. Her days were filled with the things she loved most: knitting, cooking and baking, gathering with family, and enjoying cribbage and other card games. She especially loved holding babies, a simple joy that reflected her gentle, nurturing spirit.
One of Theresa’s most meaningful accomplishments was founding Hilltop Kindergarten in Westbrook. For 25 years, she ran the kindergarten with dedication and pride, creating a place that became an important part of many lives. She even had her own fleet of buses, maintained by her husband, a detail that spoke to the commitment and teamwork behind the life they built. She also worked for several years in the bakery at Jordan Marsh, where her care and industrious nature were well suited to the work. After that, she continued to stay involved by helping with the family printing business.
Theresa also gave generously of herself to her community. She was very active as a member of the Red Hats and the Eagles, and she served as President of the Westbrook Senior Citizens for numerous years. She also volunteered for several years as a poll worker, another reflection of her steady commitment to the people and civic life of her city.
Among Theresa’s happiest times were the summers spent at the family camp on Sebago Lake. Those days became cherished family traditions, marked by togetherness and the expectation that everyone should be there. If someone did not show up on Sunday, a phone call would surely follow. That loving vigilance captured so much of who Theresa was: attentive, deeply connected, and always keeping her family close.
She loved to laugh and have fun, whether it was telling a joke or playing a prank on a family member. It was fitting, after all her birthday was April 1st.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy L. Wilson and her husband David of Yarmouth, ME and her son, Robert A. Chamard Jr. and his wife Patricia of Portland, ME. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Carl "CJ" and his wife Mori-Ann, Christopher and his wife Patricia, Destiny and her husband Jeovani and Samantha and her 7 great grandchildren, Joshua, Lindsey, Marissa, Logan, Andrew, Ezekiel and Zion as well as several nieces and nephews. In their lives, and in the lives of all who shared in her love, her presence will continue to be felt in family meals, in handmade gifts, in laughter around card tables, and in the enduring comfort of being cared for well.
Theresa will be remembered with love for her devotion to family, her generous spirit, and the joyful energy she brought to her home and community. Her life was a blessing, and her memory will be treasured.
A private burial was held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Westbrook.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of a life fully lived at Bruno’s Restaurant on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 12:30 – 3 pm.
