PORTLAND—Theodore "Ted" Raymond Dufour, 63, died unexpectedly at his home on December 24, 2017. He was born August 22, 1954, a son of Victor A. and Gladys I. (Smith) Dufour. Ted grew up in the Westbrook area, and was a 1972 graduate of Deering High School. He went on to further his education at University of Southern Maine before transferring to University of Maine at Orono where he received a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Ted was academically inclined and excelled greatly during his school years. After college, Ted was employed at Diebold Nixdorf installing security systems and later for Fairchild Semiconductor, Liberty Mutual, and Montalvo Corporation. Ted's career in electrical systems was his passion. In addition to his work, Ted had a love for the arts and enjoyed music and photography. Some of his favorite artists he listened to include Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, and The Eagles. Ted often strummed a guitar himself and was the family photographer, always capturing beautiful pictures of everyone else. Above all, family was the most important thing in life to Ted. Some of his favorite memories include spending time at the camp on Little Sebago, enjoying craft brews, and playing board and card games where he often became quite competitive. Ted thought of his nieces and nephews as though they were his own children; he cared a great deal about them and always loved hearing about what was going on in their lives, and encouraged all of their pursuits. He was proud of them all. Ted is survived by his siblings, Kathy Higgins and her significant other, Eric Hayward of Old Orchard Beach, Vickie Brogan and her husband Peter of Portland, and Edward Dufour and his wife Theresa of Gorham; nieces and nephews, Aaron Pratt and his fiancée Kelly Marston of Standish, Kim England and her husband Cole of Portland, Kelly Chaisson and her husband John of Portland, Peter "PJ" Brogan and his fiancée Brittany Ridge of Portland, EJ Dufour and his girlfriend Lilly Hopkins of Gorham, and Molly and Gemma Dufour of Gorham; and one great nephew, Jackson England of Portland. He was predeceased by his parents, Victor and Gladys Dufour. Services for Ted will be private.
