Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Thelma A Piestrak of Windham, Maine, who passed away surrounded by her family on April 17, 2026, after an 11-year battle with cancer. Born December 28, 1953 to Luther and Anita Hawk, in Danville, Pennsylvania as the “BABY” of 10 children. She faced her illness with remarkable strength, courage and grace, inspiring all who knew and loved her.

Thelma had recently retired from a long career as the Senior Office Administrator at HNTB January 2026. After her retirement, she enjoyed shopping, but her greatest joy was spending time with and doing things for her only grandchild. Days before her passing, she celebrated her 53rd wedding anniversary on April 14, 2026, a beautiful milestone that reflected a lifetime of love, devotion, and commitment to her husband and family.

Thelma will be remembered for her strength, her kind and generous heart, and the love she shared so freely. She was predeceased by her parents, nieces Lisa Oberdorf and Melissa Joyce, and nephew Eric Hawk.

She leaves behind a family who will miss her deeply and hold her memory close forever.

Thelma is survived by her beloved husband James Piestrak, daughters Dawn (Jason) Greenleaf and Gwendolyn (Jacob) Freiermuht and their son, Theoden, who was the center of his Nana’s world. She is survived by her siblings Barb, Eva, Mary, Donna, Cheryl, Rick, Larry, Jack, and Don. She is also leaving behind her close friendships with Tiana Higgins and her sister-law Jackie Hawk. Thelma was a true force, whose strength and spirit touched many, and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

A Public service will be held at Dolby Blais & Segee 434 River Road, Windham, ME 04062 on May 2nd 2026. Visitation starts at 10:00 am with the service to follow at 12:00 pm.
