Suzanne Koons Swetz November 2, 1947 - May 7, 2023 Suzanne Koons Swetz (WINDHAM), 75, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2023 after a short fight with cancer. She was born Nov. 2, 1947, in Coshocton, OH, the daughter of the late Kenneth F. and Helen M. (Salansky) Koons. She graduated from Waverly (OH) High School in 1965, and received a dual degree in 1969 in English/Secondary Education and Library Science from Kent State University. While at Kent State, she met her husband Warren Swetz; the two would have celebrated their 54th year of marriage on May 24th of this year. Suzy worked at National Geographic in Washington, D.C. and at the local newspaper in Pittsfield, ME before her final career in the Windham school system; she retired in 2012 after 25 years as a paraprofessional. In addition to a love of reading, Suzy was an avid quilter and sewist. A long-time member of the Nimble Thimbles Quilt Guild out of Windham, Suzy also volunteered at the Maine State Quilt Show in Augusta every year. Suzy made an impact on everyone she met through her smile and positive outlook, no matter the circumstance. She will be missed by many. Surviving in addition to her husband, Warren Swetz, are his daughter, Katharine Murphy and her husband, Raymond, of Stafford Springs, CT; one brother, John Koons and his wife, Susan Kandelin, of Oak Park, CA; nephews Eric and Neil Koons; and many cousins. The family thanks the staff at Maine Medical Center for the loving care she received during her final days. Visiting hours will be held 1-3 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at Dolby, Blais, & Segee Funeral Home, at 434 River Road, Windham, ME. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Harvest Hills Animal Shelter of Fryeburg, where her beloved Maine Coon cat, Juliet, was adopted.
