Windham – Stephen John Morrell, 66, died on January 8, 2018. He was born in Portland, on September 10, 1951, the son of Calvin "Abe" and Grace (Greenlaw) Morrell. Stephen was born and raised on the family farm in Windham and was an active member in 4H when he was younger. He was a 1970 graduate of Windham High School, and went on to receive his Associate Degree in Fire Science Technology from SMVTI, before starting work at SD Warren. Over the years, Stephen held a few different positions at the mill. He was able to retire from there at the age of 62, after 41 years of faithful service. His greatest joy in life was his family, who he was very close with. He was a huge sports fan and especially loved his Boston teams. Stephen coached youth sports for his children as they were growing up. In his retirement, he loved watching his grandson play sports and you could find him at every game. Stephen is survived by his children, Kristi Cartwright and husband Brett, Heath Morrell and wife Charlotte, and Kati Morrell; grandson, Tyrie James; brothers, Calvin "Bub" Morrell, Jr. and wife Cheryl, Tim Morrell and wife Linda, and Mike Morrell and wife Helen; former wife, Lynn Bucknell; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Stephen is predeceased by his sister Kathy Hawkes. A funeral service will be held at 4pm on Friday, January 12, 2018 at the Windham Chapel of Dolby, Blais and Segee, 434 River Rd., Windham, where a period of visitation will be held from 2pm until the time of the service. Burial will be at Smith Cemetery in the spring. Memorial donations in Stephen's honor maybe made to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, PO Box 336, Westbrook, ME 04098.
