July 28, 1935 - October 23, 2023 Stepan Peniuk, 88 was born in Gorham the son of Chester and Jennie Elizabeth (Pierce) Peniuk. He graduated from Gorham High School Class of 1953, Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio with a B.A. degree and served 4 years in the U.S. Army. He began working for the State of Maine in June of 1965 in Presque Isle. He later moved to Portland as an employment counselor with the Department of Labor in the WIN program. Later the name was changed to the ASPIRE program. Later still it became the WEET program. His program was moved to the Department of Human Services. After working for the State of Maine for 38 years, he retired effective September 1st 2003. In September of 2004 he was hired by Kohl's in Westbrook working for about 11 years. He was a member of the UCC at North Gorham. He had served as president of the Whitehead Memorial Fund, president of the Cemetery Association and was on the Library Board. He was superintendent of the Sunday school and even washed dishes for the bean suppers. For several years at Easter time he would sing in the Ecumenical Choir at the First Parish Congregational Church under the direction of Nina Bailey. He is lovingly missed by his wife Janice, daughters Karen Peniuk, Debra (Michael) St. Pierre, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jennie and William Crawford, grandchildren Erik, Nick, Alex and wife Becky, Robert, Savannah and Torence, great grandson Alexander James-Patrick (A.J.); and several nieces and nephews. On Friday, 17 November 2023 visiting hours will be from 4 pm - 7pm Dolby, Blais & Segee 434 River Road Windham, ME. On Saturday 18 November 2023, services will be held at 10am at Dolby, Blais & Segee 434 River Road Windham, ME followed by the burial at the North Gorham Cemetery on the North Gorham Road Gorham Maine. A reception will be held at the UCC of North Gorham, 4 Standish Neck Road, Gorham after the burial.
