Gorham- Stanley Thomas Philbin, 81, died at his home in Gorham after a courageous battle with cancer. The son of Thomas Joseph Philbin Sr. and Phyllis (Wolski) Havener he was born in Boston Massachusetts on July 30, 1937. After graduation from high school he joined the United States Army and served in the 508th Airborne Division completing 36 jumps. After he was discharged from the Military he became a police officer with the Boston Police Department. He served with the department for 33 ½ years, serving in District 4, and the Tactical Patrol Force (TPF) with his faithful dog Smokey. He also served in the Drug Control Unit retiring as a Lieutenant Detective. Before retiring he had the honor of pinning his daughter Elizabeth when she joined the Boston Police Department as well. He enjoyed reading about World History, especially WWII. He also enjoyed photography and spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife Nancy (Desjardins) Philbin of 32 years, a loving father to his daughters Elizabeth Philbin (BPD), and Jennifer Hunter and her husband David of Middleton MA. He was the proud grandfather of David F. Hunter III and William Thomas Hunter. He is also survived by his brothers Steven M. Philbin Sr., and Thomas Philbin, and his sisters Christine Philbin Friel, Laurie M. Philbin, and Jane Blanchard. Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Sunday, September 31, 2018 from 3-6 PM at the Westbrook Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee 35 Church St. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow the service in St. Hyacinth Cemetery, Stroudwater St. Westbrook.
