Obituary

Shirley E. Letarte, 92 of Main St., Gorham, Maine passed into her next life on March 8, 2025 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice, with her family by her side. Shirley was born at Maine General Hospital in 1932 and she was raised in Westbrook, the daughter of Forrest Knight and Annie and Sonny McClure. She was married to Philip Michaud and they went on to raise "8" girls. While taking care of their home and managing all those girls, Shirley worked as a CNA. Her favorite duty was rocking the newborn babies. As the years went by, Shirley met the "love of her life" Ray Letarte and his two sons, Ron and Matt. They married and began the adventure of their lives together. They work together for many years at Ray Letarte's Ski Shop in Westbrook, lobstering on Casco Bay, traveling to Sue's horse shows with Eunice and Sunny Olesen, while traveling all over the United States, favoring an annual visit to Daytona Beach! Most importantly, always gathering with all the kids for Holidays, Special Occasions and just everyday visits on "The Porch". Shirley also worked at The Chalet Ski Shop, The Shed and Blueberries & Granite, always making sure that the shops ran smoothly! In recent years you could find Shirley riding shotgun or hanging out in the back seat, riding through Portland to check on the big cruise ships or perhaps riding out to the beach to see all the people!  All the while, listening to Elvis or the oldies on the radio! Not only was Shirley a great person, she was an even better mom! She was pre-deceased by her parents, her sisters, Barbara Jordan and Bette Bragdon, her brother, Robert Knight, her daughters, Becky, Tracy and Raeleen and stepson, Matt. She is survived by daughters, Brenda/Paul Lilly, Colorado; Christine Michaud, Florida; Shelly Michaud, Scarborough; Sue Michaud, Westbrook; Fay/Bob Brooks, OOB; stepson, Ron Letarte, Portland; grandchildren, Robin, Nick, Jamie, Jarrett, Kate, Amanda and Colin and great grandchildren, Jackson, Janelle, Devon, JJ and Joey. Shirley's family wishes to express warmest and heartfelt gratitude for the amazing care Shirley received from the Teams at Maine Medical Center and Gosnell Memorial Hospice. Visiting hours will be held on May 9th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and remembrances from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Dolby, Blais and Segee, 35 Church St., Westbrook. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Westbrook.
