GORHAM - Shirley A. (Bragdon) Wedge, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at the Gorham House. She was born January 26, 1936, in Portland, the daughter of Ralph and Gladys (Laffin) Bragdon. Shirley grew up in Westbrook and attended local schools. She was a 1954 graduate of Westbrook High School. After high school she worked at Unum and later worked at St. Josephs College for 13 years where she made many friends. In 1956 Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Norman Wedge. They moved to the White Rock section of Gorham in 1958 where they started a family. She was a member of the White Rock Auxiliary Club, a leader of the local Girl Scout troop and a member of the United Church of Christ where she was a Sunday school teacher. Shirley greatly enjoyed her home; the inside was always decorated for the season and the landscape received careful attention. She enjoyed weekly coffee with her friends at McDonalds in North Windham. While for most of her life she preferred outings close to home, she enjoyed many family trips in retirement to New York City, Ireland, and Florida. Above all, Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Debra Deering and her husband, Lindley of Raymond, Donna Harmon and her husband, Robert of Corea, Dianna Brown and her husband, William of Wells, Doreen Holden and her husband, Michael of Chapin, SC, and Douglas Wedge and his wife, Jennifer of Scarborough; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother-in-law, Richard Dobson; and her sister-in-law, Ann Wedge. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Norman; brother, Donald Bragdon; sister-in-law, Gloria Dobson; and brother-in-law, Anthony Wedge. Shirley's family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Gorham House for the outstanding care she received in the six years she was there. Special thanks to Mary, Kathy, Nancy, Jackie, and Toby for their care and support. A graveside service will be held on 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the Hillside Cemetery, Houston Road, Gorham.
