Sherwood (Woody) Googins 4/22/1941 – 5/31/2015 of Westbrook Maine Woody is survived by his loving wife Carol A. Googins, his Brothers, Merle of Cornish, George of Brunswick, and Charlie of Gray. His son Chris and wife Carrie of N. Andover, MA. Daughter Amy Gorsky and husband Paul of Gorham. His stepchildren Ed Clifford and wife Deb of Standish, and Michelle Googins of Westbrook. Ten grandchildren and four Great grandchildren. Woody grew up in Falmouth with humble means and a humble spirit. The youngest of 13 he learned the meaning of hard work ethics at a young age. He grew up with a love of cars and the skills of a handyman. He took on many hard labor jobs over the years and ended with a 30 year loyalty to a job he loved at Brockway Smith as Plant Supervisor. He lived in Gorham for many Years with his first wife and two children. They enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, softball and even square dancing as a family (even though his children cringed when their friends found out as young teens) they had a great time. He later met his current wife who was a kindred spirit. He was blessed to join her family and fit in well with her children who later blessed him with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Over the years He enjoyed horseshoes, bowling, racquetball, and cribbage. His favorite toy was his John Deere tractor on which he would precisely groom his yard to the point of perfection. Oh and I can't forget his favorite truck, an old red dodge with duel exhausts stacks, she was truly loved and polished until blinding. He fought five kinds of cancer over 15 years winning many when the odds were against him. The day before he passed he was blessed to be able to come home from the hospital and function well enough to follow his daily routine, he read his paper from front to back, watch Judge Judy and his favorite cooking shows while he ate a hearty home cooked meal. He was surrounded by loved ones when he passed. He was a good hearted man who lived a simple life and will be truly missed. A graveside service will be held at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 congress St., Portland (Near the airport), on Friday June 5th at 11a.m.
