Obituary

Westbrook- Serena Louise Jaynes, 77, Born on August 19, 1940, passed away on December 7, 2017 after a long hard fight with her illness. I, Serena have decided to write my own obituary: I was born in Portland ME, the daughter of Jules and Louise Zachow. I lived my early years in Portland, then moved to Scarborough, graduating from Scarborough High School. I worked at several jobs over the years and eventually went to nursing school (which she put herself through while raising three children on her own) I worked 16 years in the nursing department at Maine Medical Center. I was also employed by the Maine Turnpike Authority for nine years, from where I retired due to health issues. I am survived by my daughter Julie Micucci, and her husband John, their daughters Cortney, Serena, & Gianna, of Buxton, my son Charles Jaynes, his wife Lori, and their children Zach, Lexi, and Abbey of Scarborough, my son Scott Jaynes, of New Orleans, and his children, Gavin, and Stephanie, and one great grandson Lucas. I was fortunate to have wonderful friends throughout the years. I couldn't have asked for a better daughter, she was always there for me. She was my best friend, and we could always find something to laugh about even in our darkest hours. She never judged me, and was my caregiver during my 20 years of ill health. I would like to thank the Hospice staff of VNA (Liz, Hope, & Emily) for always being there when I needed them. I would also like to thank my two wonder doctors, Thomas Ryan MD and Ben Farrino MD, who both kept me going over the years, even when I didn't want to. Most of all I would like to thank my wonderful daughter, and my son in law John who were there whenever I needed anything, they helped me continually through my ordeal. Thank you is not enough, I love you both. From Serena Jaynes Serena's daughter Julie adds: My mother was one of the strongest women I know, and she fought an amazing fight over the years, and I am very proud of her. I pray she has finally found the peace she deserves. Our family would like to send a huge thank you to my mothers' longtime friend Barbara Poulin Jackson for continually being there throughout my mother's final journey. We could have never done it without her. Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Service to be held on Sunday, December 17, 2017, from 2-6 PM at Bruno's Restaurant, 33 Allen Ave. Portland. The service will be held in the Ocean Star Banquet Room located off the back-parking lot entrance. Arrangements are under the care of Dolby, Blais & Segee Funeral Chapel, Westbrook. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Serena's memory to the Animal Refuge league of Greater Portland, PO Box 336, Westbrook ME 04098.
