Obituary

Westbrook Saundra B. La Count aka Sandy was born in San Jose Ca in 1936 and raised in Willow Glen. She was one of the original employees of Alexian Brothers Hospital in 1966 in San Jose beginning as a Nurse's Aide and ultimately reaching the position of Staffing Coordinator, She was known at her work for always being a sharp dresser and loved coordinating the big pot lucks with staff. Sandy loved to travel with friends and has been to Europe, Hawaii, Disneyworld, a Caribbean cruise, New York City, Michigan, Arizona, and to many places in California. She enjoyed going to watch live theater shows in San Francisco. Sandy was crazy about her San Francisco 49ers and went to countless games dolled up in all of her Niner clothing. In 1998 Sandy took an early retirement to move to Maine to be closer to some of her family who had moved here. She bought a home in Westbrook soon after and loved to decorate shop, do arts and crafts, attend craft shows and her grandsons sporting events. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Westbrook. Sandy had a little Maltese names Scooter who she adored. She loved the 4 seasons of Maine and especially the coast and Fort Williams. Saundra moved onto Millbrook Estates and in February 2015 to Saint Joseph's Manor in Portland. She became fast friends with the staff and other patients there and loved all of the activities. She played a mean game of Bingo and played it every day, along with floral arrangements, arts and crafts and was fond of Momo the Guinee pig. Her greatest joy was the many outings that the activity staff would take them on- Oxford Casino, the Circus, outside bbq's, the county fair and just for rides to see homes and scenery. She loved to tell stories and loved a good laugh. Sandy leaves behind her two sons Francis (Tim) La Count of Buxton and Mark La Count of Michigan, and two grandsons Spencer La Count of Westbrook and Jake La Count of Michigan, and a brother Al Dunn in Reno Nevada. She also leaves behind her former daughter in law and close friend Helen La Count of Westbook, along with many friends who loved her. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Saint Joseph's Manor and Hospice of Southern Maine for their wonderful care and compassion. Services will be private. Arrangements are by Blais & Hay Funeral Home, Westbrook. The van at Saint Joes used to take the patients on their trips needs to be replaced and there is a fund raising effort going on, so in lieu of flowers donations can be made in Sandys Memory to: Saint Joseph's Manor, The Van Fund, 1133 Washington Ave, Portland, ME 04103.
