Obituary

Westbrook - Sarah "Sally" Lyden, 79 of Westbrook, passed away on July 10th at Maine Medical Center after a period of declining health. Sally was born in Westbrook, Maine on February 12th, 1943, to James and Elizabeth (McCullough) Lyden. Sally was one of 9 Lyden children and grew up in the busy family home on Saco Street in Westbrook. A member of Westbrook's class of 1961, Sally was a lifelong resident of the City of Westbrook and enjoyed talking about the old days growing up in the community she loved. She was a member of the Westbrook Historical Society and a communicant of St. Mary's Church where she was also a member of the Women's Council. Sally could often be found at Mr. Bagel on Main Street or at various bean suppers around town. Sally was also a member of the Irish American club and enjoyed attending the group's summer gatherings. Sally worked at a number of insurance companies throughout her career, and retired in 2006. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, and going out to eat with family and friends. Sally attended numerous events throughout the years for her many nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed the holidays; especially decorating the Christmas tree and often she attended midnight mass in her early years. Sally was predeceased by her parents; brothers, James, John, and Joseph and sisters Mary Joyce and Mary Alice; brothers-in-Law, Frederick McInnis and Arthur Merril, and nephews, Daniel McInnis and James Lyden. She is survived by her brother, William A. Lyden, and his wife, Linda, of Fort Myers, Florida; sisters, Elizabeth "Jane" McInnis and Barbara Merrill, both of Westbrook; sisters-in-law, Mary Lyden, of Myrtle Beach, SC and Lorraine Lyden, of Westbrook, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 18th, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Hyacinth's Church, 268 Brown St., Westbrook with a burial to follow at St. Hyacinth Cemetery on Stroudwater St.
