Obituary

Sally Williams, affectionately called Gram, died peacefully on Friday, August 8, 2014 with her large and extended family surrounding her at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice in Scarborough. Sally was born on March 29, 134 in Westbrook, Maine.  She was adopted by Edward and Irene Dion of Westbrook who have predeceased her. in addition to raising her 6 children, Sally also worked at Days jewelry store when it was located on Main street in Westbrook and the bread store that was there in Cumberland Mills at that time.  When her children were young, you would always see Sally and the kids walking downtown.  Folks would comment on how clean and well behaved all 6 children were.   Sally had big arms that always had a lot more love to give.  She was Gram and MeMe to not only her grandchildren and great grandchildren, but to most of the neighborhood children and most of her grandchildren.   Gram loved to celebrate everyone's birthday and always had a card ready to send out for the next occasion.  Her love was unending.  She especially loved to spend time at her son, Brian's house in the summer watching the house and dogs while he went away on vacation.  Those summer days outside spending time with Jennifer and the kids around the pool were priceless.   The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Sally while she was there.  Their love and understanding of the dying process was very comforting to the family and we appreciate all the time they spent with us and with Sally. Sally is survived by her six children and their spouses:  son Richard Williams, Jr and wife Debbie of Saco, son Brian Williams and wife Cathy of Portland, son Scott Williams and wife Carla of Westbrook, son Jeffrey Williams and wife Sheila of Westbrook, daughter Brenda Devoe and husband Gerry of Portland, and son Tracy Williams and wife Lisa of Buxton.  In addition to her children, Sally is survived by her brother Burton Springer of MA and sister Olive Miller of Gray and ex-husband Richard Williams Sr. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.  A special mention of Jennifer Tyson and Nicole Gagnon who were by Gram's side every day as she took this journey to be with the Lord.  Kayla and Lindsey made a special trip from Florida to spend these last days with Gram. Visiting hours will be at Blais and Hay Funeral Home in Westbrook, Maine on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 3 to 6 PM.  A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 11 am at Blais & Hay Funeral Home.  A gathering of friends and family will follow at the American Legion Hall in Westbrook.  Sally always said if you are going to buy me flowers do so while I was still alive.  So, in lieu of flowers, please send a donation to: either Gosnell Memorial Hospice in Scarborough, Maine or the Maine Children's Cancer Assoc.
