Sally A Carleton, 80, died at Maine Medical Center due to post surgery complications. Sally was born in Salem, MA and grew up in Middleton, MA. After graduating from Danvers High School in Danvers, MA, she attended UMaine at Orono and graduated from Boston University with her Education degree. Sally has been a resident of Owls Head since 1982 and developed many lasting friendships with fellow Mid Coast Maine residents. She loved them all very much and enjoyed sharing her home on many occasions with them. She has a daughter, Laurel, of Boston, MA and a son, Ed, of Gray, ME and her dog, Murphy. Sally had a passion for helping people, which resulted in a lifelong passion to educate. Her career ranged from teaching in Massachusetts right after college to where she just resigned from the School Board of RSU #13. In between, she had a lengthy tenure in M.S.A.D. #40, serving throughout the 1980's into the 2000's. She enjoyed giving remedial instruction in reading as part of the Title I program, eventually becoming the district's Director of the program and supervising its large staff, involving many schools K-12. She also took on the role of being the Assistant Principal of the Friendship Village School. Sally eventually retired and settled into enjoying her home, while donating her time and energy to several Mid Coast Organizations, including New Hope for Women. At this time, she was elected the Owl's Head representative on the M.S.A.D. #5 School Board. However, after receiving a call from the District's Superintendent, she accepted the role of Principal of the Owl's Head Central School, putting a hold on retirement. She served the community for another five years and was very proud to be a mentor and advisor to many. She was widely admired and respected for her administrative leadership "people" skills and her commitment to mentor young people. A celebration of Sally's life will be held at her home on Sunday November 1, 2015 from Noon-4pm. Friends are encouraged to stop by to pay their respects.
