Obituary

Ruth Grondin Foley, 86 Westbrook, Ruth Foley went on to be with the Good Lord November 10, 2015. She was at home surrounded by loving family. Ruth was born on 5/22/29 in Portland, Me, the daughter of Simon A. Grondin and Alberta M. Sampson. She graduated from Westbrook High School, then started her career at The Equitable Insurance Company as a secretary. Ruth left The Equitable to take charge in the care of her ailing mother. Following this time, Ruth became an active member of the Down East Ski Club. It was there that she met her beloved husband of 63 years, George E. Foley. Together they raised 3 children. Their passion for skiing became their lifelong adventure. Ruth returned to the work force for a number of years, retiring in 1990, and became a loyal 10 year volunteer with the Maine Handicapped Skiing program at Sunday River where she and George spent their winters.  They belonged to the Prime Time Ski Club where they enjoyed many gatherings and ski trips. Growing up with 3 younger brothers made Ruth a Red Sox fan for life. She was also a fan of tennis. Ruth was a voracious reader. A highlight of Ruth's life was playing bridge for 40 years with a vivacious group of dear friends! Ruth & George enjoyed many summers boating with their cherished friends, Jack & Pauline, Ruth's friend since childhood. Ruth had an infectious laugh and always displayed an abundance of spirit & joy! Ruth loved so many people, too numerous to name. She was a devoted wife, a proud mother, grandmother (Mimi) and great grandmother. Her family meant everything to her. She is survived by her husband George, son Gary Foley of Westbrook, daughter Gayl Sinclair and her husband Steve of Portland, daughter Kimberly Ouellette and her husband Bob of Portland, brothers Robert Grondin of South Portland, Peter Grondin of Illinois, and Paul Grondin of South Carolina, beloved grandchildren Kristen, Courtney, Joel and Stephanie and great grandson Jake, many cousins, nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank VNA Hospice for the loving care expressed by their staff. Visiting Hours will be held Sunday, November 15, from 4 to 7 PM at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St. Westbrook.  A Funeral Mass will be Monday at 10:00 AM, St. Anthony's Parish, 268 Brown St. Westbrook.  Interment will follow at St. Hyacinth Cemetery.  Online condolences can be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com Donations may be made to VNA Home Health & Hospice 50 Foden Rd South Portland Me or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
