Ruth Irene Williams, 92, of Westbrook passed away on September 18, 2013 at home with her family by her side.  Ruth was born in St. Stephen,  New Brunswick, Canada on June 21, 1921 the daughter of Arthur J. and Viola Trecartin Barnard.  She  attended schools in Woodland,  Maine, graduating from St. Croix High School in 1938. During World War II, Ruth was employed as a welder at the South Portland Shipyard.  After the war, she returned to Woodland where she met and married Merle F. Williams in 1947.  After his death in 1957, Ruth moved to Westbrook with their two children. Ruth returned to school and graduated from the Portland, Maine School of Practical Nursing in 1966.  She was employed at Maine Medical Center and later at National Medical Care until her retirement. Ruth was predeceased by five brothers:  Arthur, Paul, Carroll, Phillip and Francis; and a sister Viola Moffitt. She is survived by her son Michael Williams and his wife Margaret; daughter Patricia and her husband Gary Davis of Westbrook; grandchildren, Sarah and her husband Andrew Nelson of Hampden, ME, Johanna and her husband Michael S. Hiltz of Portland, ME, Aaron Davis and his wife Angela, and Abby Davis of Westbrook and great –grandchildren, Emma and Ethan Nelson, Michael E. Hiltz, Nolan Davis, and Lorraine and Seleste Davis. She is also survived by brothers William (Pat) Barnard and his wife Margaret of St. Augustine, FL, David Barnard and his wife Nellie of Baileyville, ME, and a sister, Ida Kneeland of Calais, ME and many nieces and nephews.   Visiting hours will be held at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St. Westbrook, ME on Sunday, September 22, from 2-4 PM.  A funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua, Westbrook, ME on Monday September 23 at 10:00 AM.  Interment will be in Calais Cemetery, Calais, ME.  Online condolences can be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com In lieu of flowers, a gift can be made in her memory to Hospice of Southern Maine, 11 Hunnewell RD, Scarborough, ME 04074.
