Roy Newell, 90, passed away on May 12, 2026 in Clifton, Maine with family by his side. He was born in Washington and spent his early years in both Washington and California. He worked at his father’s California plumbing business and achieved his master’s plumbers license in California. He later received his Master Plumber license in the state of Maine. Roy proudly kept these licenses active throughout his life.

Roy enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hiker, camper, and cyclist. He was known to recall his hike up Mount Whitney, the highest point in the contiguous United States, river rafting on the Colorado River, and bicycle touring in Europe. Roy moved with family to Gorham, Maine in the 70’s. He worked a variety of jobs, eventually getting into and retiring from the S.D. Warren paper mill, in Westbrook.

Roy spent his later years living with his son Greg and his family. Roy deeply enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was predeceased by many friends and his former wife, Linda Plummer Newell. Roy is survived by his two sons, four grandchildren and his sister.

A graveside service will be held at 10AM Saturday July 10th at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Westbrook.
