Gorham - Roy Edward Bush, 70, passed away unexpectedly at home on June 17th, 2017. Roy was born and raised in Charlotte, NC and graduated from Harding High School in 1965 where he played football. He was recruited by East Carolina University to play football out of high school. He played the nose guard position for one year at ECU before he joined the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. He returned home from Vietnam in 1969 and finished his degree in accounting at East Carolina. He met his wife of 50 years, Gloria Roberts of Monroe, in 1966 standing outside of Jimmy's Restaurant in Charlotte, NC while they attended Central Piedmont Community College. They were married December 22nd, 1967. Roy's pride and joy were his three sons, Andy, Bryan and Travis. His love for sports is one that he shared with his boys. He loved golf and when he was no longer able to play, he would join Travis and Bryan on the course in a cart and watch proudly as they played. He loved to be outside and would be on his lawn mower everyday during the summer months. He took pride in his work and kept the grass well manicured and the pool water clear. On any given Sunday Roy could be found in the lobby of SouthCoast Community Church, greeting people with his boisterous voice and handing out bulletins. His loud greetings are sure to be missed each week. Roy is survived by his wife Gloria Bush; his three sons Andy Bush of Gorham, Bryan Bush (Lindsey) of Pinehurst, NC and Travis Bush (Kristin) of Gorham; grandchildren Bria, Myka, Ezra and Vera; sister Paulette Wright of Charlotte, NC.
