Obituary

Portland, ME - Rosemary Ann Hood of Westbrook, ME passed away unexpectedly on June 19, 2026. She was born in California on August 20, 1949, daughter of Vance C. & Rose L. (Sanville) Hood. Rosemary grew up in Westbrook, graduating from Westbrook High School in 1967. She attended the University of Maine in Orono and the University of Arizona in Tucson, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in 1971.

Though Rosemary recounted her time in Tucson as some of her most fun filled years, her proudest moment was the birth of her daughter, Kacey Ann McGimsey, in Las Vegas, Nevada in January of 1975.

Rosemary worked as a banker in Portland, Maine for over 30 years. She was known by all, customers and colleagues alike, for her utmost professionalism, kindness and good humor. Some of her longest and dearest friendships were born through her banking career.

Rosemary got her first taste of overseas travel when she and her daughter Kacey traveled to Italy in 1997. After that trip she was hooked and took every chance to journey far and wide with Kacey or one of her treasured friends. Rosemary’s adventures took her to much of Europe, North America, Central America and North Africa. She loved to hike, bike and experience the local culture and cuisine of all her destinations. Rosemary did not let the grass grow under her feet. When she wasn’t traveling, she was on the go locally, always walking about, enjoying friends and giving to her community. She was a true humanitarian who believed all people deserve kindness and respect.

Rosemary’s greatest pride and joy were her daughter and two grandsons, William and Leo. She gave them her whole heart every day and in every way. It’s impossible to state how much she loved, was loved and how sorely she will be missed.

Rosemary was predeceased by her parents, Vance and Rose Hood. She is survived by her daughter, Kacey McGimsey; grandsons William and Leo Hjort; cousin Paul LaChance and his wife Patti; their sons Parker LaChance (his wife Melissa and their two children Penny and Miller) and Patrick LaChance and his partner Emma Jean Holley, along with many other beloved cousins.

As we mourn the tremendous loss of our dear Rosemary, we find comfort in the words of Jane Goodall, words Rosemary wanted us to hear: “My next great adventure is going to be dying. There’s either nothing or something. If there’s nothing there’s nothing, that’s it. If there’s something I can’t think of a greater adventure than finding out what it is.”

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Saturday from 10 am – 1 pm, with Words of Remembrance at 12:30 pm, at Dolby, Blais & Segee Funeral Home – Westbrook Chapel, 35 Church Street, Westbrook, ME.
