Obituary

WINDHAM - Ronald Douglas Porter Sr., age 81, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 7, 2019, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 27, 1937, son of the late Frank Porter that was KIA during World War II; mother, the late Eva (Paltonawick) Porter Palmer, and stepfather, the late Fred Palmer, that raised him after his biological father's passing. In 1956, Ron graduated from high school. He joined the Army Reserves, and obtained NCOIC status, rank of E-7, and dedicated 23 years of service. Ron and his stepfather, Fred built a camp in Byron. It was his pride and joy. He retired from Sappi as maintenance supervisor. Ron enjoyed being a Mason, wood working and spending time with granddaughter and family. He was also predeceased by daughter, Shelly (Porter) Armstrong; brothers, Lance Porter and Atwood "Sonny" Porter; and Shirley Porter. He was happily married to Sandra (Lowell) Porter of Windham. Other survivors include his step-son, James McCarver and wife, Mechelle and their daughter, Emmi Grace of Windham; daughter, Rhonda (Porter) Sinclair and husband, Bill, of Mexico; son, Ronald "Doug" Porter II and family; two sisters; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A Masonic service will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 16th, at the Mason's Hall, River Road, Windham.
