Obituary

GORHAM - Ronald (Chummy) Dyer passed away at home on December 2, 2024. Born to Maurice and Germaine Dyer on March 9, 1942, Ron attended Scarborough High School. He married the love of his life, Karen Harmon, on September 23, 1961. They raised their family in South Gorham. Their home was always welcoming to everyone. Ron helped Karen raise sheep for their wool. They enjoyed showing their fleeces at agricultural fairs where they won many blue ribbons. Ron worked at S.D. Warren/Sappi Paper Mill for 38 years, retiring in 1999. To his friends, he was known as "Chummy." In his younger years, Ron loved to hunt, fish, and go to the Brick Oven camp in Moosehead. He was an avid stock car fan and liked going to Louden to camp out with friends and watch the races. But his real passion was riding his Harley Davidson with Karen. Chummy never missed any motorcycle runs, including traveling to Sturgis in 1990, attending Behind the Barn parties, annual trips to Laconia, Stoney's Lobster run, and, of course, The Toy Run for the kids. Those who knew Chummy understood his demeanor and that he lived his life the way he wanted – right up the very end. Ron was predeceased by his wife of 57 years. He is survived by his son, Jake and his fiance, Michelle Bento; his daughter Darcy Dyer and her long-time partner, Danny Harmon; the daughter of his heart Wanda Thompson and her husband, Billy; three grandchildren, Dakota and Savannah Thompson and Sadie Dyer; his sister, Darlene (Dyer) Emmons and her husband Bob; his brother Dennis Dyer and his wife, Joan; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. The family would like to thank Hospice of Southern Maine for their compassionate care. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 1-5 at the home of Jake Dyer, 46 Grant Road, Saco. Please contact Jake at (207) 831-4003 with any questions.
