Obituary

Westbrook Roland "Skip" Tourangeau, Jr, 81, died Saturday October 21, 2017, at Maine Medical Center. He was born November 6, 1935, a son of Roland and Lilly (Hjort) Tourangeau. Skip attended grade schools in Westbrook and was an altar boy at St. Mary's Church. He was a boy scout and achieved the Life Scout and the AD Altare Dei awards. Skip graduated from Cheverus High School where he earned a letter in track when his Junior Relay Team came in second in the state.  While in High School, Skip served in the US Navy Reserve. He later joined the US Air Force. Upon leaving the Air Force, Skip began a 37 – year career at Portland Eastland Hotel where he held various positions. Semi-retired, he left the hotel business and worked at various capacities for Shaw's Super Market in Westbrook for 16 years before retiring in 2013. Skip had a life-long love of race horses. He worked with several horse owners and followed his brothers' horses and their racing careers. When he wasn't out keeping up with the horses he was at home unconditionally loving the many cats he cared for throughout his lifetime. Skip also had a passion for music and amassed a large music collection. In addition to his parents, Skip was pre-deceased by a still born daughter, and a brother, Robert A. Tourangeau. He is survived by his brother Richard "Dick" Tourangeau of Scarborough; sister, Susan J. Driscoll and her husband Marty of Naples; sister in-law, Jean of Scarborough; and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the Park Danforth Staff; Annette, Richard, Mike and Judith. A special thanks to niece Elyse Tourangeau from Old Orchard Beach, for her love and care of his favorite cat Murphy. Also special thanks to caregiver Anne Tourangeau from Scarborough. Visitation will be held from 9:30AM – 10:30AM Wednesday October 25, at the Blais and Hay Funeral Home 35 Church Street, Westbrook. Following visitation a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM at St. Anthony of Padua Parish, 268 Brown Street, Westbrook.
