Obituary

Roger D. Boynton, 85, passed into heaven on March 7, 2016, surrounded by his family.  Roger was born in Millinocket on April 12, 1930, the son of Olive and Silas Boynton.  Roger was a loving husband to Polly Boynton for 61 years, and a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  Besides his wife Polly, he is survived by his 2 children, William Boynton and wife Katherine of Taylors, SC; Jane McCarthy and husband Mark of Westbrook; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild who were the loves of his life, Phillip Rollins and his wife Aijan; Danielle Pete and husband Dan; Benjamin Boynton, Caroline Boynton, Matthew McCarthy, Garrett McCarthy and 1 great-grandchild, Evangeline Pete.  He is also survived by brother-in-law Atlee Goodwin, sister-in-law Marion Campbell, sister-in-law Maryann Brown and husband Carl, many special nieces and nephews and many, many friends.  Besides his parents he was pre-deceased by a brother William, sisters Shirley Goodwin and Dorothy Thompson, and brother-in- law Ray Campbell.      Roger was a kind gentleman who made many friends and never spoke an unkind word about anyone.  He was employed by GNP for 36 years as Company Photographer, also photographing many weddings and family photos.  He was a faithful member of Millinocket Baptist Church, serving as a Trustee, Sunday School teacher, and a Deacon for over 50 years.  He was one of the 6 original members of the Hasbeens,, a singing group, and right in his glory singing his rendition of "Mrs. Murphy's Chowder!"  He loved to fly fish at Kidney Pond and telling tall tales to his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor!           Pastor Tim Bossie will preside over his Celebration of Life service at the Millinocket Baptist Church at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, with visitation from 1 p.m. to time of service.  Honor Roger by wearing something red, his favorite color.
