Obituary

Dr. Roger J. Bernier 88 passed away at Falmouth By The Sea on January 16, 2017. Roger was born in Westbrook Maine on July 31, 1928, the son of Leopold and Marie Louise (Bouillon) Bernier. He attended St. Hyacinth School in Westbrook, Maine and graduated from Cheverus High School in Portland Maine. He entered the Brothers of The Sacred Heart and was in that order for 17 years, where he taught in several schools. St Laurent in Montreal Canada for 5 years, Mt. St Joseph's in Rhode Island for 8 years and 4 years at St Andre's in Biddeford. After leaving the order to pursue other avenues of education, he worked to get his Doctorate Degree in Psychology and his Masters in Mathematics and Theology. He was a professor for 30 years at The University of New Hampshire. Roger truly loved teaching, traveling some and playing the organ. He volunteered at The Hollis Police Dept. in New Hampshire educating the inmates. He had his own private practice as a Psychology Counselor. He was a very kind man, always a gentleman and thankful for whatever anyone did for him. He moved to Maine because of ill health and to be close to his sister Jane. She was truly devoted. She visited him almost every single day for 12 years at Falmouth By The Sea. Roger was the last of a very big family. He is predeceased by his sisters Irene and Jane, his brothers Raymond, Lionel, Philip, Laurent, Edward, Gerard, and Conrad. Rogers's family would like to thank the staff at Falmouth By The Sea for caring for his comfort and needs through the years.
