Obituary

Roberta Simpson Ritter passed away peacefully April 15th, 2022. She was born June 17th, 1919 in Detroit, Michigan to Robert and Mary (Irvine) Dall, who had immigrated from Scotland. Roberta, or "The Queen" as she humorously anointed herself on her 90th birthday, was 102 years of age. While working in the Detroit Public Library she met and married Reynold A. Ritter on April 15th, 1944. Roberta had to stay busy. In addition to working for the Detroit Public School Cafeteria Department, she always was working on a new craft project, involved in a charitable activity, doing research for an investment club, planning tour trips for her Church group, or finding some time for gardening. Upon her husband's passing in December of 2004, after 60 years of joyous marriage, and the rather mature age of 85, she moved from Detroit to Standish, Maine. It took her no time completely agree with the State motto "Maine, The Way Life Should Be". In Maine she quickly found the friendly welcoming arms of Faith Lutheran Church, enjoyed time on Lake Sebago, trips to the Atlantic Ocean, tending to her garden flowers, having 'nature' right in her back yard, and being near her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The last six years she resided at Park Danforth in Portland, Maine where she made many friends of both residents and staff, and in her words, "was treated like a Queen". Surviving Roberta is her son, Reynold R. Ritter, her granddaughter, Susan Dunne, and her husband Sean, and their daughter Erica of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, and her grandson Brad Ritter, and his wife Jaci and their children, Savanna and James. There is a Celebration of Life planned for Roberta, Saturday, June 4th 2022 at 10:30am for all who care to attend. The Celebration will be at Faith Lutheran Church, 988 Roosevelt Trail, Windham, Maine with a gathering after to share a meal and remembrances. Roberta was strict in her wishes that this not be in any way a dressy, solemn occasion, but rather one of great memories, smiles and laughter shared casually between family and friends of a wonderful and full life lived.
