WINDHAM—It is with great sadness that the family of Robert David Timmons Sr. announces his passing after a brief illness on January 17, 2019, at the age of 73. He was born on April 28, 1945, a son of Bill and Flora (Dyer) Timmons. In his younger days, Bob enjoyed weekend fishing trips with the family to the family camp in Jackman, Maine. He was involved in open wheel racing for the majority of his life, from racing on dirt in the early days at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, to the asphalt at the "Steel Palace" of Oswego Speedway in upstate New York. "We traveled a lot as a family from track to track, and we all had a great time together, he was quite a 'Shoe'" said his son, Bob Jr. and his daughter Terri. More recently Bob had got back into racing horses which he had grown up around. He owned several race horses and one very special horse named "Fra", which he spoke about fondly. Fra started out as a race horse but was very spoiled by Bob with treats and became his pet. Bob was employed as a truck driver for Merrill and later worked as a mechanic for Sanborn's Motor Express (APA Transport) where he eventually retired. Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years, Christine (Tina), and their children, son Robert Jr. and his wife Peggy and their children, Nicole and Robert III, his daughter Terri and her children, Ryan, Kyrstin, and great granddaughter Fiona, and many friends. Bob was predeceased by his mother, Flora; father, Bill; brothers, Raymond and Donnie; sister, Kay; and his granddaughter Kayla. The family would like to thank the staff of Maine Medical Center and the Gosnell House for their compassion and support during their difficult time, and the many friends and family who called and visited. A private burial will be held in the spring. Arrangements are in the care of the Windham Chapel of Dolby Blais & Segee, 434 River Road, Windham, Maine.
