Obituary

STANDISH-- Robert Leroy Lyons, caring husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, died peacefully and unexpectedly from heart failure on December 10th at Central Maine Medical Center. He was born at home on April 20, 1946, in Windham, son to the late Malcolm Leroy Lyons and Mary (Lowell) Lyons. With his six siblings, he was raised on the family homestead on the Windham Hill Road. Robert graduated from Windham High School, Southern New Hampshire University, and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was married for 46 years to Mary Law Lyons of Rumford, and they raised their two daughters on the east shore of Sebago Lake. With a passion for conservation, Robert founded Energy Conservation Systems in Merrimac, Massachusetts and was district manager for the Upson Company and Celotex Corporation. Bob also volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and was president of the Rock-A-Mee Cook neighborhood association. Robert was a devoted and proud father to his two daughters, Amy Lyons Higgs (Steve Higgs), of Portland, Oregon, and Kate Lyons Landry (Chris Landry), of Dana Point, California. He loved his grandchildren, Ella Higgs, Tasman Higgs, Adrienne Landry, and Ivy Landry, and his many nieces and nephews. Robert is survived by his siblings, Patricia Buck of Windham, Malcolm Lyons (Kathleen) of Manchester, Guy Lyons (Cheryl) of Lubec, Michael Lyons (Mary Anne) of Standish, and foster siblings, Joyce Demo of Florida and Dennis Ramsey of Texas. Above all, Robert was a devoted family man with a loving heart who brightened everyone's spirits with his clever and endearing wit. A humble, gentle man, Bob instantly put others at ease and treated everyone with kindness and respect. He was happiest kayaking on Sebago Lake, stacking wood, applauding sunsets, and celebrating life with the beloved people who filled his. He will be dearly missed. A celebration of his life will be held at his childhood church, Windham Hill UCC on Saturday, December 17 at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to Meals on Wheels, 310 Broadway, South Portland, ME 04106 or the Maine Audubon Society, Development Office, Maine Audubon, 20 Gilsland Farm Rd, Falmouth, ME 04105.
