Robert Lane, 92, of 10 Congress Square, Portland, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014. He was born and raised in Fort Fairfield, the son of Robert and Hazel (Rockwell) Lane and attended Fort Fairfield schools. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1943 retiring in 1972. After retiring he took a job at the Maine Youth Center for ten years until 1982. In 1945 Robert married Carrie Nilsen in Portland, ME and moved to Brooklyn, NY a year later, where they lived until 1959 when they moved to Falmouth. Carrie passed away in 1993. He joined the Corner Stone Lodge#216 AF-AM in 1946. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Portland, ME, the Masonic Temple, attaining 32nd Degree. Mr. Lane leaves two sons, Robert Lane III and his wife Doreen of Scarborough, and Theodore Lane and his wife Patti of Portland; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren; a sister Margaret "Bibb" Potter and husband Raymond of Vermont; a cousin Laura Marston of Portland; and a devoted friend Mike.
