Obituary

Robert L. Dow, 87, of Gorham, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the Gorham House surrounded by his family. He was born in Westbrook, the son of Jeannette Densmore and Lawrence Dow.  Bob attended Portland schools and at age 17 joined the Air Force and served in World War II.  He worked for 36 years at Carr Brothers Co.  After his retirement he became a Crossing Guide for 4 years and then worked at Hannaford for 7 years. He was a train enthusiast and belonged to a club called the 470 Club.  He had a model train set up in his home.  His favorite type of music was Blue Grass.  He was the last surviving member of the Dixie Ramblers Blue Grass Band. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Jeanette (Rouse) Dow in 2006. He is survived by his son Robert J. Dow and his wife Sharyn of Gorham; his daughters Robyn Swallow and husband Mike of Cumberland, and Randi Dow of Gorham; a brother Richard Dow and wife Christine of Cape Elizabeth; sisters Victoria Doughty and husband Dick of Westbrook, Priscilla LaSalle and husband Aidan of Westbrook; three grandchildren, Kara McCabe and husband Jon of Cumberland, Robbie Dow of Gorham, and Ashlee Swallow of Cumberland; and two great grandchildren, Colin McCabe of Cumberland and Jason Dow of Gorham. Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook.  A funeral service will be held at 10 AM Wednesday at the funeral home followed by interment in Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland.  On line condolences may be expressed at blaisandhayfuneralhome.com.
