STANDISH—Robert "Bob" A. Strout, 82, passed away at home surrounded by his family on June 24, 2018. He was born September 12, 1935, a son of Ida Landry. He grew up on Walker Street in Westbrook and attended school locally. His hard work ethic was instilled in him at a young age when he began working as a farm hand at multiple local farms, assisting with all the daily chores. He later began working at S.D. Warren where he made his career of 40 years working on the paper machines. Bob was a skilled carpenter and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of really anything with his friends and family. He made friends easily and was known as the "candy man," always carrying a pocket full of candy wherever he went. On September 20, 1990, he married Ethelyn "Evie" Strout, making their home in Standish where Bob enjoyed working in flower and vegetable gardens. A reliable man, Bob was the "go-to" guy when it came to spare parts, tools, or anything that someone needed a hand with. He was a tease who will be remembered for his love for family, sense of humor, and his famous advice "You know what I'd do." He is survived by his wife, Evie Strout; a daughter, Theresa Strout-Wade and her husband Daniel, and a son Raymond Strout; step-children, Richard Strout, Russell Strout and his wife Lisa, Michael Strout and his wife Nora, Helena Mitchell and her husband Ralph, and Ida Courtemanche and her husband Paul; 15 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren, and a special niece, Paula Beaulieu. He was predeceased by his mother, Ida Landry; and siblings, Howard Strout, Joanne Smith, Barbara Sandora, and Philip Strout. A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 11am at St. Hyacinth Cemetery, Stroudwater St., Westbrook. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bob's name may be made to: Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, PO Box 336, Westbrook, ME 04098. Arrangements are in the care of the Westbrook Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee, 35 Church St., Westbrook, Maine.
