She resided there for almost 5 years under the awesome care of staff members and Compassus Caregivers. Rita was born on January 9, 1932 in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Eva (Cyr) Bernier. She was predeceased by her husband Pius G. They decided to move their small family of daughters, Jacqueline, 3 years old and Rachel, 9 months old to Maine in 1956. They initially settled in Redbank, where their daughter Carol was born. A short period later Pius and Rita moved their growing family to 39 Newton Street in Portland where their son Michael was born. Rita learned to speak a second language with the help of her daughters. As the children grew in age, she worked at Howdy's Burgers at Morrill's corner; and later was employed at the Rustic in Portland. As time passed, Rita began working for herself as a housekeeper and caregiver for a few close families. She was loved and appreciated by all. She is survived by her brother Noel and Sister Marie Portras of Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada; daughter Jacqueline and husband Ronald Bisesti, of Windham, Maine; daughter Rachel and husband James Tirrell Jr. of Windham, Maine; daughter Carol Galipeau of Standish, Maine; and son Michael and wife Elaine Michaud, of Windham, Maine.
