WINDHAM—Rita H. Carey, 97, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 13, 2019. She was born February 17, 1922, a daughter of James and Mary (McAdoo) Landry. As a youngster, Rita received her education in Massachusetts and started working when the family moved to Maine. Throughout her whole life, Rita was a hard worker and was employed at various companies such as: Diamond Match Company in Oakland, the Waterville Cotton Mill, the Winslow Chicken Plant, Hathaway Shirt Factory in Waterville, Thayer Hospital, and her last job, where she discharged patients at Maine Medical Center, retiring in the 80's. She was married to Kenneth Carey Sr. for 59 years before his passing in 2001. After Kenneth's passing, she resided with her daughter and son in law, Roseanna and Ernie Hinkley. Rita was an active member of Pinea Lodge #71 the Rebekah Pocahontas of Sebago. She enjoyed playing Beano, crafts, and being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rita is survived by her daughter, Roseanna Hinkley and her husband Ernie, her son Kenneth Carey Jr.; 7 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, as well as several great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Carey Sr.; her daughter Mary Howard; siblings, Donald White, Ruth Young, and Matilda Hume. A period of visitation will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2019 from 6pm to 8pm at the Windham Chapel of Dolby Blais & Segee, 434 River Rd., Windham, ME 04062. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 18 at 10am at the chapel. Burial will take place in the spring.
