Obituary

Windham, ME - Richard (Dick) Erlon Walker, 84 passed away suddenly on July 4, 2026. Dick was a beloved brother and friend born in Portland, Maine February 17,1942 to Bertrand and Elizabeth Walker. After graduating from Deering High School in 1960, he served in the U.S. Army in Munich, Germany, during the Cold War. On September 3, 1966, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Barnes, in a candlelight ceremony; they were inseparable for 57 years until her passing. Dick was a fixture in the Windham community, where he lived in the home, he built himself for 60 years.

Throughout his career—from his time as a parts manager at Mack Trucking and Nortrax to his work as a plumber’s assistant—Dick was known for his dedication and work ethic. He was also a skilled woodworking craftsman who took great pride in designing and creating custom log furniture.

Those who knew Dick will remember his deep love for the Maine outdoors. Whether he was hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, or four-wheeling, he was happiest in nature. He found his greatest peace at the cabin he built in Garland or camping in his RV, especially during his favorite trips to the Fryeburg Fair. He was also a proud member of the Standish Masonic Lodge #70, where he served as a past Worshipful Master and recently received his 50-year service pin.

While we mourn his loss, we are grateful for the time we had with him. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife and his very good friends R.O. Hagar and John Hagar. He is survived by his sisters who loved him dearly, Gail W. Leighton of Granby, CT and Joy Halligan (David) of Falmouth; his brother-in-law, Elwood Brown of Dayton; and four nephews and their families: Adam Leighton (Suzanne) of Granby, CT; D. Andrew Halligan (Kathryn) of Gorham; Patrick Halligan (Maureen) of Windham; and Scott Brown (Susan) of Dayton. He also leaves behind his “adopted family members” Becky Hagar and his godson, David Hagar.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life service on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Dolby, Blais & Segee Funeral Home, 434 River Rd. Windham. Visitation at 12 pm; Service at 1 pm. Graveside service to follow at Arlington Cemetery, Windham. Please take a moment to enjoy the Maine outdoors in his memory.
