NAPLES—Richard Norwood Staples Sr., passed away on April 10, 2018 at the age of 80. He was born March 28, 1938 the son on Donald and Thelma (Leavitt) Staples. He grew up in Westbrook, graduating from Westbrook High School in the class of 1957. On November 22nd 1958 he married Effie Harmon. Dick spent his working years doing a variety of trades. He was mechanically gifted, and worked as a machinist at the old Keddy Mill in South Windham, he also built power stations for Windham Electric. He was extremely handy and could take-apart or fix anything that needed repair. He enjoyed tinkering and building things; one of his projects he was most proud of was his mobile saw-mill that he built, which many family members sought great use out of. Dick was a well-loved man who enjoyed racing at Beech Ridge in his younger years. He also enjoyed playing guitar and singing, gardening, fishing, hunting, and simply being in the Maine outdoors. He had a great love for his family, excellent provider, hardworking, and an all-around great Dad. He is survived by his children, Russell Staples and his wife Alice, Richard Staples Jr., and his wife Christina, Donna Cote, and Donald Staples and his companion Janet Walsh; step children, Erica and Jeremy; 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and many step grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Effie Staples. A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 11am at the Friendship Cemetery in Standish.
