Richard T. Sorenson Sr., 93, of Sumac St., Portland, passed away Monday, November 30, 2015 at St. Joseph Manor. He was born Dec, 8, 1921and raised in Portland, the son of Frederick and Emma (Schurr) Sorenson and attended Deering High School. Richard served in the U.S. Army as an Army Ranger in World War II. He was involved in D-Day and was wounded in action 6 times, receiving the Purple Heart and three Oak Clusters. Richard was a member of the Highland Lake Grange and the Mason's. He enjoyed gardening, his morning routine of going to breakfast with his friends, and spending time with his grandchildren and geat-grandchildren. Richard was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Sylvia in 2009, his brothers John and Neils, and his sister Madeline Rhodes. He is survived by his sons Richard Sorenson Jr. and wife Mary of South Portland, and Craig Sorenson of Warren; daughters Vicki and husband Jim Stokes of Windham, Christine and husband Alan Zemla of Windham, and Brenda and husband Jay Robinson of Limerick; his sister Pauline Varney of Windham; sister-in-law Patricia Sorenson; nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be from 4 to 6 PM Wednesday, December 2nd, followed by a funeral service with military honors at 6 PM at Blais and Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook.
