GRAY—Richard F. Small, 77, passed away May 11, 2019 at his home. He was born January 13, 1942, a son of Richard and Edna (Patt) Small. Dick was a graduate from Gorham High School in the class of 1960. Following high school he furthered his education at the college level prior to enlisting with the United State Marine Corp. He proudly served for four years before his honorable discharge. Following his service, Dick began working at Sylvania in Standish where he was employed for 37 years, working his way up to the role of lead mechanic. On July 5, 1979, he married Mary-Ellen Dow and spent many years of their married life in Limington before making their home in Gray. Dick had several hobbies and enjoyed being a member of the Windham Veteran's Center where he served as past President for 3 years. One of Dick's biggest passions and favorite past times were spent on a boat. He loved boating of all forms, and was in his prime particularly while boating on the ocean. He and Mary even made the trip down the East coast to Florida on his beloved houseboat, "It'll Do". Dick was firm in his beliefs, yet had a wicked sense of humor. One of the most generous people you would ever meet, Dick will be remembered for his reliable nature, always willing to give others a hand. He is survived by his wife, Mary-Ellen Small; children, David Small, and Carolyn Bessey and her husband Don; step children, Earlon Clark and his wife Sandra, Raymond Clark and his wife Jackie, and Lynda Lord and her husband, Daniel; siblings, George Small and his wife Fay, and Debra Littlefield and her husband, Randy; 12 grandchildren, including Liz "Bambi" Lord, and Matthew Small; 5 great grandchildren; and close friend Chris Lord. He was predeceased by his parents, and a sister, Joanne Clark. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019 from 5pm to 8pm at the Windham Veteran's Center, 35 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Windham, ME 04062. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dick's name may be made the Center. Arrangements are in the care of the Windham Chapel of Dolby Blais & Segee, 434 River Rd., Windham, ME 04062.
