Obituary

MIMS, FL – Richard E. Peters, 91, of Windham, ME died Thursday, April 12, 2018 at a Titusville, Florida hospice facility. He was born in Newport, NH on December 9, 1926, the son of Arthur and Lela (Thomson) Peters. He attended schools in New Hampshire and Maine. In 1944 he left Biddeford High School, lying about his age to join the Navy. After returning from serving in the Pacific during World War II, he attended Thomas College in Waterville, graduating in 1950. In 1953 he married the love of his life, Pauline Brewer, in West Springfield, MA. Mr. Peters worked for Hamilton Standard in Connecticut, Augusta Lumber Company and St. Johnsbury Trucking Co., retiring in 1988, after 33 years of service. At this time the "St. Johnsbury Guys" were like family and to this day, the retirees' get-together in Florida was one thing he really looked forward to. He and his wife, Polly wintered in Mims, Florida from November until April. During the summer months he worked part time for the Purpoodock Club in Cape Elizabeth. He enjoyed playing golf and sports of all kinds. He was a member of the Family Campers and RV's for over 40 years. The "fun days" of camping were when the children were all young. He served as Field Director and Assistant State Director to the F.C.RV's and at times he held office in the local chapter, the Pine Tree Campers. He was a member of golf leagues both in Maine and in Florida. "Pete" as he was known by his friends, "Dick or Dickie" by his family and "Pop-Pop" to his grandchildren, enjoyed a long and full life, rich with what really matters – family, friends and creating memories that will live on in the hearts and minds of all those he met. Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pauline (Brewer) Peters; sons, Bruce R. and his wife Rachel of Centreville, VA, Bryan A. and his wife Wendy of Ellington, CT, and Barry F. and his wife Kris of Orono, MN; daughters, Ann Marie Wilson and her husband Paul of Glencoe, AR and Brenda L. Brown and her husband James of Windham, ME; grandchildren, Leann Holding, Joanna Williamson, Elizabeth Bartholomew, Stephen Peters, Christopher and Brandon Brown, Sophie, Lauren, Harper and Riley Peters; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held 11:00am on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Windham Chapel of Dolby Blais & Segee, 434 River Road. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Peters' memory may be made to Hospice of St. Francis, 1240 Grumman Place, Titusville, Florida 32780
