Obituary

Windham – Richard H. Hebert, 57, passed away peacefully, at the Gosnell Hospice in Scarborough on Saturday Feb. 25, with his loving family by his side. He fought a yearlong battle against cancer with strength, courage and dignity. Richard was born in Portland on 11/19/1954 to Hubert and Marilyn Cummings Hebert. He attaended Westbrook Schools and graduated from Westbrook High School Class of 1973. During High School , he worked at his fathers store, Heberts West End Market, delivering groceries. He went on to join the Army, where he graduated top of his class at training school, earning the rank of SPEC 4 and went on to be a radio relay carrier attendant. Following the Army, Richard went on to get his Associates Degree in Accounting from Andover College. After graduation, he was employed by S. D. Warren , currently Sappi Fine Paper, where he started out in Production and held several positions in managements and finished his career as day manager of logistics. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed the rivalry with the Red Sox, with his friends and family. He enjoyed ice fishing and his many trips to Moosehead with his fishing buddies. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his 3 grandchildren. In 1974, he married his High School Sweetheart,  Rose Jarry and they have been married for 37 years. They have 2 children Derek and Alyssa. Richard was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife Rose Hebert, son Derek Hebert and granddaughter Claire Rose, daughter Alyssa and husband Tom Lawler and grandsons Gavin and Avery, brothers Joel and wife Debbie, Steven, Philip and wife Joyce, sisters Michele and husband Dana, Paula and husband Bob, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many many friends and especially his 2 cats Piney and Buddy. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Blais & Hay Funeral Home 35 Church St. Westbrook. Funeral Services will be private. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ebrahim, Danielle Bowen, Missy, Dee Dee, the 5th floor Gibson Pavillion and the entire staff at the Maine Medical Center, We would also like to thank the staff at Falmouth by the Sea and the Gosnell House, for their wonderful care and support to Richard and his family. A very special heartfelt thank you to the Windham Cancer Support Group, who have been with us every step of the way through this journey with cancer.
