Richard Otis Hagar, 84, went to meet his Lord on December 18, 2024 surrounded by his family, who deeply loved him and will miss him greatly. He was born in Portland, ME on September 24, 1940 to the late Hazen Otis Hagar and Edna Petty. Richard grew up in Portland and graduated from Deering High School, class of 1959. After graduation he served in the U.S. Navy until July of 1961. He was very proud to serve his country and would tell stories of all the places he was able to see in his three year journey. He was most proud of going to the South Pole at least twice. After returning home, Richard married Margaret Fickett and had three amazing children, John, David, and Judith. They settled in Cumberland, ME where he became a plumber and had his own business and served his community for many years, later retiring in 2017. Richard was always happy to lend a helping hand and would give the shirt of his back to anyone in need. He was a loyal member of South Windham Community Church, the Masonic lodge, Model-A club, and many others. Richard was an outdoor enthusiast and shared his passion with family and friends. Which lead him to become a Registered Maine Guide. He spent many days and weeks at his family hunting camp that was built by his father and grandfather in Sweden. Where, he was raised to hunt, fish, and trap. He enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors and passing down that knowledge to his kids and grandchildren and many dear friends. In addition to Sweden, he spent quality time at his camp in Jackman. He loved being part of the Boy Scouts of America and being a leader to teach and guide young minds about the world around them. He also enjoyed managing a large vegetable garden and sharing the canning products to others. His love for traveling took him across the country countless times in many Winnebago's and motorhomes. Where he created wonderful memories with his partner Julie, and many others that turned into dear friends. One of his adventures lead him to the Coon hunt in Tennessee that he would returned to every year. He enjoyed collecting antique snowmobiles, cars, and motorcycles and shared that passion with others alike. He also enjoyed having furry friends and raised Brittany Spaniels. He had a couple litters and most recently had his beloved Dory who would be seen by his side. He had quite the sense of humor and would be heard answering the phone with great one liners. He was the type who would wave and talk to anyone in passing if they gave him the time. You would also see him stopping and picking up trash and bottles on the side of the road. Which, he thought was a shame how people didn't care for nature. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his former wife Margret Fickett, son John Michael Hagar. He is survived by his brother David Hagar and wife Barbara of Dexter, his sister Carolyn (Hagar) Schmigle of Oklahoma, His daughter in-law Becky Hagar of Windham (wife of John), his son David Hagar and wife Gail of New Gloucester, Daughter Judith (Hagar) Pelton of Cumberland, Grandchildren Matthew Hagar of Cumberland, Tasha (Hagar) Green and husband James of Windham, and Kimberly Hagar of Cumberland. Three Great-grandchildren Sadie Hagar, Jasper Green, and Mason Green. Who loved their GG very much, and many nieces and nephews, and his partner Julie Whitney of Windham. The family would like to thank the team at Maine Medical Center special care unit and the wonderful staff at Gosnell.
