WINDHAM – Richard (Dick) Butts, 91, of Highland Cliff Road passed away peacefully, October 8, 2019 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Rockland, a son of George and Gertrude (Gilbert) Butts on December 5, 1927. He had 11 brothers and 3 sisters. His family moved to Portland when Dick was young where he attended local schools. Dick worked for the Boston and Maine Railroad at Union Station for twenty years. After the railroad stopped its passenger service, he started his own painting business. Dick learned to wallpaper from his friend Lee Schools. He quickly became very successful. He also loved music and formed a four piece band called Dick Butts and the Troubadours, where he played the drums and his wife Judy played bass guitar and sang. They performed most weekends and organized variety shows with various acts performed by many family members and friends. Dick was known far and wide as a Jokester, especially his famous thumb trick. He was happiest when he was making others laugh. He so enjoyed spending time with all the guys at his favorite coffee shops, some to include are Chutes in Windham, Guide's Diner in Westbrook, Dunkin Donuts in Westbrook, Rolly's in Auburn and Becky's Diner in Portland. Dick so enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, especially walking the trails he made out in his woods to visit The Three Bears House and the Junk Cars. He also enjoyed gardening and taking several walks a day with his dog. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Judith E. (Woodis) Butts of Windham. Three Sons and one daughter, Reginal F. Butts and wife Tamara Butts of Raymond, Scott R. Butts and wife Tanda Butts of Windham, Richard E. Butts Jr. and wife Eleanor Butts of Windham and his daughter Julie A. (Butts) Morgan and husband Russell Morgan of Exeter. Two brothers, Harold Butts of Scarborough and Virgie Butts of Kentucky. Ten grandchildren; Rusty Butts, Gabriella Butts, Alta Butts, Cody Morgan, Olivia (Butts) King, Bebe (Butts) King, Jackson Butts, Cara Morgan, Eliot Butts & George Butts, and 3 great grandchildren, Drew Butts, Ezra King and Ellie King. There will be a graveside service on Wednesday October 16, 2019 at 1:30 pm at Chase Cemetery, 94 Highland Cliff Road Windham, ME. Arrangements are by Dolby, Blais & Segee – Windham. The family would like to thank The Gosnell House for the special and kind care that they gave to Dick. We would also like to give an extra thank you to Jamal for his kindness and compassion.
