Obituary

FRYEBURG - Richard A. “Dick” Brandon 1944-2026 Richard Arnold Brandon, 81 of Fryeburg, Maine died peacefully at home on February 9th, 2026. He was born in Willimantic, Connecticut on March 6,1944 to Ivan Brandon and Agnes Arnold Brandon. He grew up in “Red City” of South Windham, Maine from the age of 2 and shared many fond memories of his escapades during his school days. Richard graduated from Windham High School before joining the US Marine Corps in 1962. He did an extended tour during the Vietnam War with the 1st Recon Division. While he achieved the rank of Lance Corporal 3 times, he received a Purple Heart for being injured while retrieving a fellow Marine under fire. To those who knew Richard, this will be no surprise to them. His selfless attitude and loving, kind demeanor touched all with whom he interacted.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother and father, his sister Elizabeth Maleck and her husband Tom Maleck, his niece Mary Williams, and nephew Carl Maleck. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Margaret Brandon, son Timothy Brandon, daughter-in-law Genanne Brandon, daughter Tammi Brandon, grandson Benjamin Brandon and Michael Brandon. Richard loved children and taught skiing to grade school children. He loved outdoor activities such as, playing softball, horseshoes, hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, walking in the woods. He often wore a Marine or veterans ball cap so that he could strike up a conversation with fellow Marines and servicemen. His compassion for others, especially the marginalized, was unsurpassed. His warm and wonderful sense of humor will be sorely missed. He will be remembered by many as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law and friend. His funeral service will be on Saturday March 7th at the Center Conway Baptist Church, 3071 East Main Street, Center Conway, NH, ¼ mile from the State Line Store at 1pm with a reception to follow.
